OVG Real Estate (now known as EDGE Technologies) purchased this former Eneco Headquarters building in 2015, in order to re-develop it and transform it into an advanced and sustainable office building. When renovated, the building would become a modern and comfortable working environment, without compromising on energy efficiency. In order to achieve this, OVG chose to implement bGrid’s Smart Building Solution during the renovation.
The foundation of bGrid’s solution is our omni-sensor nodes, which are integrated in the ceilings and form a connected grid throughout the building. These nodes periodically measure temperature, humidity, light intensity, sound intensity, occupancy, and CO2 concentration. The data from these sensors is collected, monitored, and analysed, with a view to increase employee comfort and energy efficiency through building automation.
For example, the lighting level is automatically adjusted based on the amount of natural light from the windows detected by the sensor. The amount of fresh air needed for meeting rooms can be calculated from the CO2 data collected by the sensors there. Additionally, the sensor system allows users to personalize their lighting and climate preferences through a mobile app, which works anywhere in the building. After the renovation, the new MM25 building received an energy label of A – the best there is.
