2Amsterdam is a 16-story, 21,000m2 office space in the south of Amsterdam. The pair of towers that make up the office space (and adjoining hotel) were renovated from floor to ceiling, outfitted with the latest future-proof technology and are now entirely solar-powered. Its redevelopment was completed in 2021, and since then 2Amsterdam received a BREEAM Excellent certificate and has become one of the first projects registered for a SmartScore Certificate, which recognises buildings with “reliable, secure, and future-ready in-building technology.”
One such technology to be integrated during the building’s renovation was bGrid’s network of omni-sensor nodes. The goal of 2Amsterdam was to create a building where every visitor felt at home, no matter how long they were there. To achieve this, we at bGrid strived to create an open and flexible smart building solution which could adapt to the needs of every visitor, present and future. These needs change over time, so there is a certain demand for buildings to adapt to changes quickly. At bGrid, we believe data is the key to this.
The grid of bGrid sensors installed in 2Amsterdam collects this valuable building data so that it can be monitored and evaluated over time. We use this data to help building owners and operators understand what is happening in their building and provide them with actionable insights about how to optimise it. Additionally, our open API allows 2Amsterdam’s owner, operator and occupants to select the applications best suited for their needs and connect them to our network. Such applications can then allow users to find unoccupied meeting rooms, check the lighting, temperature, or noise level of an area, and even track the location of specific items within the building.
This adaptability helps to future proof the building, as it can evolve with the needs of its occupants. Additionally, our system is set up so that software updates, reorganisations, and other disruptive actions can be done remotely without needing to disturb the users of 2Amsterdam. At bGrid we work closely with our partners and provide them with the data they need to enhance performance, maintain healthy and comfortable indoor climate conditions, and increase energy efficiency. We continuously improve our technology and data to meet the evolving needs of our clients, making the buildings we work on truly future-proof.
